Signs of Fall . . . already?

Yesterday at the butcher's I noticed a bowl full of pomegranates on the counter.  As the butcher handed me the 10 hot dogs I came in for, I asked if they were selling the pomegranates.

Nope.  They were giving them away.

Free pomegranates!

I must have looked pretty excited about that, because instead of giving me two free pomegranates that I thought was reasonable, he chucked FOUR in the bag!

The butchers are now officially my favorite neighbors.  ;)

So, for a grand total of 30 pesos, I walked out with 10 hot dogs and 4 very robust pomegranates.

What a great day!

  2. We must be connected (like food soul sisters!) . I saw grenadas at the mrcado a couple of weeks ago, but knew itnwas too early for them to be ripe enough. I even slyly asked another vendor, pointing with my head "is it really time for grenadas, already?" And she confirmed my suspitions. "Gve it a couple more weeks, they are still too yellow for my liking." And then she winked.

Glad to know at least this ONE thing I am "in the know" about.

But your free ones look gorgeously red.

Bring on the chiles en nogada!!! Mmmm

  4. Mami--we ARE food soul sisters, I just know it! And one of these days we will meet and eat lots of good food in person. Yes, indeed!

Hey Alisha--I´m glad you found us, and I hope that the links to other blogs help, too. Where in Mexico are you moving to? If I haven´t been there myself, I can probably find you someone who has, or is currently living there.
